Abstract

The project aims to reinterpret Chinese aesthetics through contemporary design methods, while promoting cultural diversity and inclusivity. Drawing on Chinese calligraphy and the material qualities of rice paper—which is extremely soft and fragile, yet bears thousands of years of cultural history—this paradox becomes the core concept of the work: visually soft, yet inherently strong. The coexistence of softness and solidity in this project is informed by the Yin–Yang philosophy of Chinese Taoism, in which opposing elements depend on one another to sustain balance.
